Christmas Surprise!
After Thanksgiving, Christmas also became a lively time for the first time in a while. On Christmas morning, a wonderful surprise awaited me and my husband!
Usually, we spend Christmas busy with volunteer activities, such as visiting the day service center for elderly, so we tend to celebrate Christmas at the end of year instead of on the 24th and the 25th. However, this year, my second son got married, and since the children living in Japan were gathering after a long time, we decided to get together on Christmas day and invite my mother as well.
The week before, I tried to purchase my husband's smartphone online, but the process didn't go smoothly. It took me days to figure out the issue through the internet and phone support, which became quite stressful. Therefore, picking up my mother by car and doing things a bit differently was a nice change for me. Luckily, we managed to resolve the smartphone issue, and it was supposed to arrive on Christmas Day.
On the 24th, my mother arrived in the evening and we were just relaxing when my eldest son came over. My second son and his wife were busy coming and going, and they planned to stay overnight to help with food preparation (so we thought!😂).
Then came the 25th. Having stayed up quite late the night before, I thought I'd sleep in a bit and was lounging in bed when the doorbell rang. My husband answered the door, and I could hear a lively conversation.
"Did the phone arrive?" "Who is he talking to?" "Is it just a delivery?" As I got out of the bedroom, suddenly I saw a figure approaching me...
"Huh? Who is it?" With my sleepy mind and blurry eyes, it took me a moment to recognize who it was. It was my youngest daughter, who was supposed to be in Australia!😲✈️🦘🐨
I had heard she was returning to Japan temporarily, but I thought it would be after the New Year. Later, I found out all the kids knew about it, and we, the parents, were the only ones left in the dark!
I was completely fooled! I chuckled to myself, realizing how elderly people get scammed in situations like this!😈
From then on, we enjoyed a joyful reunion, prepared meals, had a delicious dinner, exchanged gifts, and concluded the day by watching the movie "White Christmas."
It turned out to be a heartwarming Christmas that filled us with warmth. More than anything, it was the best Christmas gift for us!😍
