So Sorry!!
This time, a father, mother, and their adorable 4-year-old son came to stay with us. I hoped we could all enjoy our time together as usual, but…
About a day before the guests' arrival, I started coughing that only got worse. On the day of their arrival, I greeted them wearing a face mask and we spent some time together, but that night my coughing became quite severe. I didn't want to disturb them while they were resting in the adjacent room, so I quickly moved to a room on the second floor.
Since they were staying for three days, typically we get to know each other on the first day, have deeper conversations on the second, and then say goodbye on the third. However, due to my cough, I had to ask John and my son to take care of things while I rested in the room. I had been coughing day and night over the last few days, and it was pretty tough.
Well, these things happen, I reminded myself, but I felt disappointed and guilty for not being able to host the guests who had come all this way, and I was also worried about spreading anything to them. On the first day, I managed to chat a little with the mother, play LEGO with their son, and had a brief conversation with the father, but I felt incomplete and very disappointed. 😭
Everyone, taking care of your health is important!
Still, I heard that the family went to the park and enjoyed eating Botan nabe (wild boar hot pot). I hope they had a good time!
I was able to say goodbye when they left. I hope they weren't disappointed and will come again!
P.S. One of the joys of homestays is that communication continues not only during the stay but also before and after. I've continued to exchange messages with this guest, and they mentioned wanting to come back in the summer. That made me feel happy. 😊
